In 1939, Pan American and Imperial Airways flew four trans-Atlantic airmail services. Two routes went through Botwood, Newfoundland. Pan Am suspended flights during 1940-1941, but resumed them in 1942. The presentation solves several mysteries surrounding a First Flight cover postmarked 4 May 1942 marking the resumption of service from Newfoundland to the United Kingdom via the North Atlantic route.

Describes the paper used to print Newfoundland stamps by Perkins Bacon between 1929-1938 and
Waterlow between 1942-1949.
Demonstrates how to analyse paper fibre to determine what raw materials were used to make the
stamp paper.
Discusses the changes to the raw materials over the years, and whether the source of the
softwood pulp for the paper came from Newfoundland or Norway.

Traces the history of Newfoundland's outport post offices. The listing for each post office includes its location by bay and map reference, population, opening and closing, postmasters and general information, and illustrations of the various markings used. There are also sections describing the mail distribution to and from the outports and the types of town date stamps used. 479 pages.
