The total number of awards in 2006 was slightly less than in 2005, but generally the award levels were higher - 40 golds, for example, compared to 33 in 2005. Single frame awards were 23% of the total. BNAPS exhibits totaled 31, compared to 33 in 2005.
Only 15% of the total awards were at APS shows within the United States - the continued emphasis was on exhibiting the BNA material at shows in Canada, which is logical, although an increase of exhibits within U.S. venues would be desirable. Exposure of BNA material to the general stamp-collecting public is a recruitment tool.
I know there are many of our members who exhibit at the local or regional level, or even in other countries at non-FIP shows. In every instance, this helps to promote BNA philately and recruit new members. All exhibitors and those who write on BNA philately should be congratulated. It takes research and a lot of work.

Linn's Stamp News reports:
Total daily attendance for eight days at the Washington 2006 stamp show approached 225,000, making the show for some observers the most successful international show held in the United States, even better than the heralded Ameripex show of 1986.
According to Bob Dyer's count, there were 682 exhibits and 234 literature entries, for a total of 916 in competition! The Palmares is 64 pages! He has scanned it for BNAPS members exhibiting BNA material or for members with BNA literature entries. If he has missed anyone, please let him know.
The website is www.washington-2006.org . Look under "Competitive Exhibits."
