The BNAPEX 2023 Halifax souvenirs, consisting of ten Picture Postage™ stamps depicting folk art mailboxes found in Nova Scotia are still available, but quantities are limited. The stamps are affixed to cacheted covers and postmarked with specially designed pictorial cancels. The stamps, booklets, covers, and cancels are illustrated on the Souvenirs page.

Set of 10 stamps on a Vario sheet with two-page insert in a folder: $30 per set.

Set of 10 cachet covers with pictorial postmarks: $40 per set.

Booklet of 12 stamps: $20 each.

Two late-entry exhibits were submitted, bringing the total to 47:

  • Province of Canada Domestic Letter Rates during the “Pence Era” (1851-1859) shown through the Québec City Post Office Window
  • The $1.00 1967 - 73 Centennial Issue

Exhibits

2. The synopsis and title page of the exhibit The Nova Scotia Post: Early Mails and Markings have been posted.
3. The title page of the exhibit Mail Between, and Via, Canada and Japan, 1873-1898 has been updated.

Seminars
There are two updates to the seminars. Sean Weatherup will be chairing the RPO Study Group meeting on Friday, 15 Sept., and Hugh Rathbun will be chairing the Philatelic Specialists Society of Canada meeting on Sunday, 17 Sept. Full details on the Seminars page.

Events
Note the following changes:
1. There will not be a Hospitality Room on Thursday, 14 Sept.
2. The exhibition and bourse will close at 14:00 on Sunday. Exhibit take-down will occur between 14:00 and 16:00. See the Events page for full schedule.

The time period for exhibit set-up on Thursday evening has changed. The period is now 17:00 to 21:00. View the Events page for the schedule of all the convention events.

Seven more exhibits have been posted on the Exhibits page, bringing the total to 45. In addition, the synopsis and/or title page of two exhibits have been updated:

  • An Overview of Canadian Continental Postal Rates from 1763 to 1851 through the Quebec City Post Office Window
  • Alouette: Canada's Entry into the "Space Race"

Another dealer, Beddows Philatelics of Gananoque, ON, will be at the bourse.

The number of hotel rooms available at the special BNAPEX convention rate of CA$199 per night is almost exhausted. Upon request from the BNAPEX convention committee, the hotel set aside a few more at the convention rate.

Book your room as soon as possible to ensure you benefit from this special rate. Go to the Accommodation page for details.

Note that the cut-off to book a room at the convention rate is 14 August.

The synopsis and title page of another exhibit, Canada 1949-1951 Definitive Issue, has been posted on the Exhibits page.


16 July 2023

Six more exhibits have been entered in the competitive exhibition. Their synopsis and title page have been posted on the Exhibits page. As of mid July, 29 exhibits occupying 88 frames have been entered.

You still have time to enter your exhibit. The last day of the subsequent acceptance period for requesting exhibit frames is 25 July.

The BNAPS Atlantic Provinces Regional Group will meet on Friday at 11:30. The meeting will be chaired by Jack Forbes, and the topic will be "Show and Tell". All are invited to attend, not just Regional Group members.

BNAPEX 2023 offers two tours:

Details on the Events page. The registration form has been updated to include registration for the two tours.

BNAPEX offers a lobster feast on Friday and the awards banquet on Sunday. The registration package has now decoupled the two suppers. The registration form has been updated to allow you to register for both suppers or for either one.

Three more dealers are attending the bourse: Royal Williams Stamps Ltd. (Robert Graham), Gary Steele, and Alex Worsfold. See the Dealers page for complete listing.

Four special cancels will be applied to cachet covers affixed with Picture Postage™ stamps depicting folk art mailboxes found in Nova Scotia. The cancels are illustrated on the Souvenirs page.

The list of competitive exhibits has been updated, and their synopsis and title page posted online. To view, go to the Exhibits page and click the "Synopsis & title page" button. Exhibit frame space is still available. Frame applications will be accepted until 25 July.

The Christmas Study Group and Canadian Military Mail Study Group join 12 others that will meet during BNAPEX. See the Seminars page for a complete list with schedule. The meeting rooms will be busy!

The BNAPEX organizing committee advises that payments for registration and exhibit frames can be made by cheque in any the following currencies at no extra charge: CA $, US $, UK £, and EU €. The amount should be at the current exchange rate with the Canadian dollar. Make cheques payable to Nova Scotia Stamp Club.

The list of study groups holding meetings at BNAPEX in Halifax is growing. The RPO, Re-entries and Constant Plate Varieties, and Air Mail Study Groups have joined the original nine. In addition, there will be a "Meet the Webmaster" session, and the Philatelic Specialists Society of Canada is hosting a presentation by Gordon Smith entitled Port Hood Provisionals.

The BNAPEX registration form has been posted. Click on "Registration" in the navigation sidebar. There are two versions of the form:

  • A computer-fillable form that you can download, fill in using Adobe Acrobat, save, and submit by email
  • A manual form that you fill in manually and send by mail

The convention souvenirs consist of ten attractive Picture Postage™ stamps and cachet covers highlighting folk art mailboxes in Nova Scotia. Canada Post terminated the Picture Postage™ program on 1 September 2022. Here is your chance to get stamps printed before the demise of the program. Click on Souvenirs in the navigation sidebar.

The list of dealers attending the bourse has been updated. Click on Dealers in the navigation sidebar.

Convention tours are being planned. Details will be posted online when available.
