After Dr. "Jim" Goodwin died in August 1953, several BNAPS members suggested that a trophy be given in his memory. The James Goodwin trophy was to be given annually for the best display of postal history or some other area of BNA philately, to be decided by a committee. A trophy was bought in 1955.
