A Past-President of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, Whit Bradley applied his training to the study of the Canadian “Map Stamp” of 1898. In his subsequent work on the same stamp, the late Ken Kershaw wrote, “…since the beginning of the [1960s], Whitney L. Bradley was attracted by the plating of this stamp. His lifetime research and dedication finally resulted in the publication in 1989 of a fourth philatelic masterpiece, The Canadian Map Stamp of 1898 – A Plating Study, a handbook published by the British North America Philatelic Society (BNAPS). Based on Colonel Adam’s initial research, Mr. Bradley presented an improved and comprehensive method for plating a map stamp based on the unique combination of Principal Outstanding Features (POF) and Secondary Features where both the red islands in conjunction with some black engraved features allow plating the vast majority of the positions. Because of its pioneer nature, his book is still considered today as being a reference for the student who wants to build a capacity in plating this stamp. This is the reason why we dedicate our research with the present book to this great map stamp enthusiast.”
