The purpose of The Canada Precancel Handbook is to present all known data on Canadian precancels, to attempt to display this data in a logical format and to allow this interesting phase of Canadian philately to be developed further. Some of the information had already been published in various philatelic publications, but additional material has been included by the Precancel Committee as it became available. A further aim was to try and solve some of the questions raised in the philatelic press, even though many questions still remain to be solved by other specialists in the future. The Canada Precancel Handbook is just that, a handbook of basic and important information about the subject, providing an underpinning for the successive versions of The Standard Canada Precancel Catalogue.
