Hosted by the BNAPS Calgary Regional Group and the Calgary Philatelic Society in the city of Calgary, Alberta, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Calgary. August 31, September 1-2.

BNAPEX 2011

was hosted by the BNAPS Golden Horseshoe Regional Group in the city of North Bay, Ontario, at the Clarion Resort Pinewood Park Hotel, located five minutes from the center of the city. September 2-4.

BNAPEX 2010

was hosted by the Pacific Northwest Regional Group of BNAPS at the renowned Fairmont Empress Hotel and the Victoria Conference Centre, located right on the harbour front of historic Victoria, British Columbia, September 3-5.

BNAPEX 2010 featured four days of almost clear blue sky weather and moderate temperatures, an excellent exhibit with 16 of 30 exhibits receiving Gold awards (see the Exhibit Awards page elsewhere on the BNAPS website) and many seminars and study group sessions. The convention committee headed by Peter Jacobi deserves congratulations on a job well done.

BNAPEX+2009+SEAWAYPEX

was hosted by the St. Lawrence Seaway Regional Group of BNAPS, and the Kingston Stamp Club, at the Ambassador Conference Resort, September 11-13, 2009.

The year 2009 marked the 50th Anniversary of the St. Lawrence Seaway. What better way to celebrate this event than in historic Kingston, the first permanent settlement of Upper Canada, later the capital of Upper and Lower Canada (1841-1844)? This year also marked the 225th anniversary of the founding of Kingston.

Highlights of the convention included 140 frames of exhibits, several study group meetings, a bourse of 30 BNA dealers from across Canada, as well as dinner at Kingston's historic Fort Henry Officers' Mess and the Past Presidents' Reception and Awards Banquet.

BNAPEX 2008

BNAPEX+2008+NOVAPEX
was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia
August 29- 31, 2008 at the
Lord Nelson Hotel

By any measure, this was one of the best BNAPEX conventions. In particular, the exhibition was described by the Jury as the finest quality and quantity in at least 30 years; 27 Gold Medals and an unprecedented 3 Reserve Grand Awards were presented. The palmares will be posted soon.

Photographs from the Halifax show can be found HERE. Some captions will be changed and some additional photos will be added, so please check this occasionally.

One of the benefits of membership in BNAPS - some say the greatest benefit - is the opportunity for meeting fellow members and sharing the hobby with them. The major annual event is the Annual Convention - BNAPEX. There, members conduct the formal business of the Society; enter and enjoy exhibits; assemble for the Annual General Meeting; take part in local tours, events and social events; browse the busy bourse; and just hang out with friends they have met through membership in BNAPS. At the main dinner, the Society recognizes the volunteer efforts of members through presentation of awards. The winners of the exhibition categories are awarded their ribbons. Elected members of the Board of Directors are introduced.

The Society honours its hardest working and most distinguished members through appointment to the "Order of the Beaver". This is a special occasion and appointments are not made every year.

The BNAPS Archives illustrate many of the photos taken at BNAPS conventions over the years. BNAPEX 2004 was held in conjunction with BALPEX, at Baltimore, Maryland; BNAPEX 2005 was held in Edmonton (see above for details); BNAPEX 2006 will be in Sudbury; while the 2007 event will be in Calgary.

Not everyone can manage to attend these conventions. There are still opportunities for meeting with fellow BNAPSers through Regional Groups. Each group operates according to its needs, so there is no set number of meetings. The BNAPS Study Groups also offer fellowship and more specialized information about aspects of the hobby. Look for the closest Regional Group or a Study Group that interests you and make contact with them. Or, consult the Secretary for assistance.

The latest news about any aspect of the Society can be found by clicking the What's New tag on the Main Page.
