E. R. (Ritch) Toop Memorial Award

The E. R. (Ritch) Toop Memorial Award was created in 1998. It is presented to a BNAPS member for any book, pamphlet, or article representing significant and substantial research on Canadian or BNA military mail or military postal history. The work may be published in a BNAPS journal or any other publication. The award is a certificate and a cheque for $75.00.

The late Maureen Toop provided BNAPS with funding for the award in memory of her late husband, E. R. (Ritch) Toop, OTB, one of Canada’s foremost military postal historians. Ritch wrote numerous articles on a wide variety of subjects, and co-authored six authoritative handbooks on Canada's military postal history. He was a founding member of the BNAPS Canadian Military Mail Study Group and contributor to its newsletter. Ritch died on 13 October 1995.
